Hypnosis: description, methodological issues, and an explanatory model
Hypnotizing consists of a hypnotic induction plus a post-hypnotic suggestion. It will be discussed how this works and what kind of suggestions can be made. Also we treat the notion of ‘trance logic’ (Orne) and skepticism (Barber). Also we discuss Hypnotic Susceptibility Scales (Stanford), faking (joint work with E.R. Hilgard), control of emotions (J.T. Barendregt). Finally a model of hypnotizability will be given, based on experience from vipassana meditation.
